A Colorado woman whose boyfriend is accused of pouring gasoline on her and setting her on fire died Wednesday night, according to reports.
Prosecutors charged John Vasquez, 32, with second-degree attempted murder, first-degree assault and a violation of a protective order last month. Investigators said he doused Christina Archuleta with gas and laughed while setting her on fire at a campsite in the Arapahoe National Forest June 17, according to arresting documents obtained by KDVR-TV.
Archuleta suffered third-degree burns on 60% of her body that morning, and a helicopter airlifted her in critical condition to a hospital from the campsite west of Denver. She succumbed to her injuries from the attack late Wednesday, the TV station reported.
“I'm sure a lot of you have already heard that our dearest daughter went to be with the Lord,” said a post on a GoFundMe page for Archuleta on Thursday. “What a heart wrenching time. I will miss her. Her poor boys. They took it so hard. It was so devastating to see their broken hearts.
Please pray for them that God comforts their hearts.”Previous posts on the page showed that Archuleta's condition had been so bad in recent weeks that she was unable to communicate with her loved ones. The page had raised over $10,600 by Thursday afternoon."So sorry to hear about this tragedy," one donor wrote on the page. "My thoughts and prayers of comfort and peace for the family, and her children. God bless."

Investigators from the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation said they found a half-full seven-gallon gas can at the scene and two lighters in Vasquez’s pockets when they arrested him. He said his girlfriend of two years had caught fire somehow while he was trying to start a fire to cook breakfast.
But Archuleta’s sons, aged 7 and 10 years old, blamed Vasquez. One of the boys suffered second-degree burns trying to put out the flames, and he told investigators he saw Vasquez pour gas on her and light her shoulder on fire, the arresting documents showed.Vasquez then “stood there and laughed” rather than do anything to help her, the boy told investigators. Her other son, who had walked to a nearby creek, ran to get a jug of water and helped put out the flames.Police said Archuleta and Vasquez had fought the previous night while drinking, with Vasquez kicking her and Archuleta punching him in the face. The boys, who are now living with their father, said they didn’t like their mom’s boyfriend because he fought with her frequently, according to investigators.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Vasquez would face enhanced charges following Archuleta’s death. Representatives for prosecutors didn't immediately respond Thursday afternoon to a request for comment.
“We’re all having the victim in our thoughts and prayers,” Bruce Brown, the district attorney for the 5th Judicial District, told the Denver Post last month. “It’s a tragic episode, and we will aggressively pursue criminal charges.”
